119673076_af814cea1f_o-1.jpgFrom the California Melee mailing list -“For those interested in upgraded insanity there was the Turbonique DragAxle, which appeared to be a center section for a quick changedifferential - but with a mutant spaceship tumor growing from its hinder. That tumor was, in fact, a rocket engine providing direct drive to therear axle. When not in use, the car would drive under conventional powerthrough the front drive shaft. When the driver hit the “panic button,” therear mounted rocket would immediately engage and begin channeling OneThousand Three Hundred Thermolene-addled rocket horsepower to the rearskins. All this despite weighing a scant 100 pounds. It was advised thatthe driver keep his thumb on the switch during operation since, having noclutch or fuel metering, the only way to control acceleration was byshutting off the fuel supply.”Were any of these actually sold?  If so, did they work and where can I get one?

I want this…

Unlike some people who write for the site, I don’t just randomly spout off “I’m going to get one of those” every time a new car comes out. Additionally, the last two new cars that came out that really caught my interest, I purchased. Well, I’m saying it again. This time, that car is the Pontiac G8. This car, in the 2009 GXP trim, is pretty much everything I’m looking for in my next car. It’s comfortable, large enough to be a “family” car, and has a reasonable 400 HP.

I grew up on Japanese cars. I played a lot of Ridge Racer when I was younger. I watched Anime. I’ve never had a serious interest in cars made in any other countries. I certainly never dreamed the next car I would lust after would be American (or Australian, for that matter).I think this is a sign of the times for car culture and the automotive industry in this country for our generation.

An odd side note to this is that my girlfriend recently bought a 2007 G6. Does this make us a Pontiac “family?” My house will look like it belongs outside of Cleveland, Toledo, or Detroit.

This looks like too much fun.

CycleKarts are small, lightweight, nimble machines made by their drivers for the pursuit of motoring sport. They’re not serious speed-machines or status-generating show cars. They’re purely for the gritty fun and satisfaction of tearing around in a machine you’ve built yourself. As a class of driving machine, the CycleKart formula limits certain aspects of the machines (for reasons we elaborate on elsewhere) to maintain good sporting performance without jeopardizing the light-hearted nature of these machines. CycleKarts and their builder/drivers don’t like to take things too seriously, and certainly not themselves or each other, so overzealous competitiveness is frowned upon, and a win-at-any-cost attitude is not invited back. We do encourage good, sporting competitions for fun, to which end the cars are kept reasonably similar in performance.

More information here. I have a welder and easy access to motorcycle parts…bad things could happen.

This was pointed out on a message board that I am a member on, and I found it a bit disconcerting.

Hopefully this won’t result in my being blacklisted from TopGear…
